How We Test Robots Before We Recommend Them
A long feature list does not tell you if a robot is actually good. We test the jobs that matter in a real home, compare the results with similar products, check the daily maintenance, and then judge whether the robot is worth its price.
Our current testing focuses mainly on robot vacuums and robot vacuum-and-mop systems. Cleaning performance gets the most weight, but we also test navigation, obstacle avoidance, carpet, pet hair, mopping, docks, battery coverage, apps, and overall value.
From Unboxing to Final Recommendation
We do not start with the product page and work backward. We start with what the robot is supposed to do, check how it performs, and then compare that result with its price and competitors.
Check the Product
We look at the robot, included parts, dock, brushes, mop system, sensors, app support, and advertised features.
Set It Up
We check mapping, room setup, Wi-Fi connection, app controls, schedules, cleaning modes, and no-go zones.
Run Cleaning Tests
We check debris pickup, carpet, hard floors, pet hair, edges, mopping, navigation, and common obstacles.
Live With the Robot
We look at bin emptying, brush cleaning, mop care, dirty water, charging, dock work, and normal daily use.
Score and Compare
We compare the results with similar robots and decide where the product makes sense and where it does not.
A Robot Has to Do More Than Move Around the Floor
Strong suction alone is not enough. Brushes, floor contact, navigation, mop design, software, dock care, and maintenance can all change the final result.
Hard-Floor Cleaning
We check how well the robot handles normal floor debris and whether it leaves dirt near edges or pushes larger pieces away.
Carpet Performance
Carpet needs more than surface pickup. We look at brush contact, suction behavior, carpet boost, and how well dirt is lifted from the fibers.
Pet Hair and Tangling
We look at both pickup and maintenance. A robot can collect hair well but still create extra work if the brush wraps badly.
Mopping Performance
We check dried marks, normal wet messes, edge reach, mop pressure, carpet protection, and whether dirty water gets moved around the floor.
Navigation and Obstacles
We check room maps, route quality, missed areas, repeated cleaning, and how the robot reacts to common objects left on the floor.
Dock and Maintenance
A premium robot should reduce work. We check dust emptying, water handling, mop washing, drying, brush cleaning, filters, bags, and replacement parts.
Cleaning Performance Gets the Most Weight
We use a weighted score because not every feature matters equally. A robot vacuum still needs to clean well, so vacuum cleaning performance receives 25% of the total score.
Navigation and mopping each receive 15%. Carpet, pet hair, and dock performance each receive another 10%. App use, battery coverage, and overall value complete the score.
The system stops a robot from ranking highly just because it has one impressive number or one new feature.
We Look for Problems That Specifications Cannot Show
Product pages are useful for specifications, but they cannot tell you how annoying a robot becomes when it misses a room, wraps hair around the brush, leaves water near a rug, or needs constant dock cleaning.
Mapping Must Make Sense
A map is useful only when rooms are recognized correctly and the robot can return to the right area without wasting time.
Automation Must Save Work
Auto-emptying, mop washing, drying, and water refill matter only when they reduce the number of jobs you still need to do yourself.
Maintenance Counts
Brushes, filters, dust bags, mop pads, tanks, and replacement costs are part of ownership, so they are part of the review.
Testing and Product Specifications Are Not the Same Thing
We use hands-on results for performance judgments, while manufacturer information is used for specifications such as suction ratings, battery capacity, dimensions, dock functions, and supported features.
Product Specifications
We check important published details such as suction, battery, dimensions, sensors, mop lift, and threshold ratings.
Included Features
We check what the specific model and package actually include instead of assuming every version has the same equipment.
Price and Availability
We look at the selling price because a recommendation can change when one robot costs much more than a similar alternative.
Replacement Items
Dust bags, filters, rollers, mop pads, and other consumables affect the real cost of owning the robot.
A High Score Does Not Mean the Robot Is Right for Everyone
The final score helps compare overall performance, but the recommendation still depends on the type of home and buyer.
A robot that is excellent on carpet may not be our first choice for a home that mainly needs hard-floor mopping. A flagship robot can also score well but lose on value if a cheaper model does the important jobs almost as well.
That is why our reviews include clear positives, negatives, best-use cases, and who should buy or skip each product.
The Same Basic Standards Apply to Every Robot
Good review methods are useful only when they are applied consistently.
Large Marketing Numbers Do Not Win Automatically
A high suction rating, AI label, or long feature list does not replace actual cleaning, navigation, and daily usability.
We Include Problems in Recommended Products
A robot can earn a recommendation and still have important negatives. Those limits remain part of the review.
More Expensive Does Not Mean Better Value
We judge what the robot gives you for its price and compare it with other options in the same market.

No single test can reproduce every home. Floor material, carpet thickness, furniture layout, Wi-Fi, lighting, pets, clutter, software versions, and cleaning settings can all affect performance.
